Milwaukee Road Links and Information

Here you can find plenty of information and links to several excellent websites which are either based on or feature the Milwaukee Road. The reason why this information was not included on the previous page highlighting the Milwaukee was simply to keep things more nice and tidy for you, the visitor.

Anyway, I have visited all of the websites below and can attest to their worth. If you are after information and/or pictures about the MILW, you shouldn't be disappointed after visiting these websites!

Milwaukee Road Historical Association: The official historical society keeping alive the Milwaukee Road's rich history. They have a wealth of preserved information on the railroad and if you are ever interested in joining, as with all historical societies, they can always use more members!

Dave's Rail Pics: Perhaps the best online gallery of the Milwaukee's Pacific Extension and electrified operations, most of which were taken just a few years before it was shut down (during or prior to 1974 and most photos are in color).

SD45.com: Fine website which features galleries of many fallen flags, including the Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Road Trail: This website features plenty of information and pictures on the Milwaukee's "Lines West."

Lines West Video: Short video of the Milwaukee Road's Lines West and electrified operations taken in the 1950s.

The True Story on the Milwaukee Road's Decline: The story presented here highlights, in stunning detail, how and why the Milwaukee Road collapsed.

Lines West Gallery: Another fine gallery of photos depicting the Milwaukee's western operations.

Lines West Gallery II: Yet another gallery of photos, these from 1974, detailing the Pacific Extension.

The Coast Division: This gallery of photos depicts the Milwaukee's Coast Division in Washington State.

Pentex Preview of the Rocky Mountain Division: Another short video, from Pentex on YouTube, detailing the Pacific Extension and the Little Joe electrics in action, right before the line was de-energized.

Detailing the Coast Division: This forum thread details the final years of the Milwaukee's Coast Division through the photography of an employee who was there to witness it.

More on the Coast Division: Another forum thread from the same website and author as the above giving more details of the line's final years.

Cascade Rail Foundation: The Cascade Rail Foundation is an organization preserving the Milwaukee Road depot and substation in Cle Elum, Washington. The site has come a long way from being dilapidated and left for dead. If you have any interest in the Milwaukee Road or the Cle Elum area please consider helping out the Foundation however possible, I know that they would greatly appreciate the help in preserving these historic structures.

Milwaukee Road Archives: This site includes an entire cornucopia of information and photographs on the Milwaukee from advertising pamphlets and posters to the bankruptcy proceedings in the late 1970s.

Milwaukee Photo Archive from RRPictureArchives.net: Another fine website that includes galleries of most fallen flags, including a large collection of Reading photos.

Milwaukee Photo Archive from George Elwood's Fallen Flags Website: In my humble opinion, the best archival database of fallen flag photos on the Internet.

Also, if you might be interested please visit, and consider joining our American Rails Forums; a family-friendly community where there are plenty of knowledgeable folks to help answer any questions you might have.

Lastly, feel free to search the web or American Rails conveniently from the Google search box below if you're after more information on the Milwaukee Road. As always, if I can be of assistance in any way please do not hesitate to contact me!
