The Abilene & Smoky Valley is the only venue in Kansas currently offering a murder mystery experience. Their excursion lasts 2 hours, departing from the Rock Island depot and is held on a single date each May. The trip includes a stop at Enterprise, Kansas, at the Hoffman Mill and Country Store.

More About The Railroad

The railroad offers a nostalgic trip through the scenic Smoky Hill region. Established in 1993, it operates on a stretch of track originally built by the classic Rock Island in the early 1880s.  This venerable company served much of the Midwest from the Twin Cities to southern Texas and sadly disappeared in a 1980 liquidation.

The railroad provides visitors with a chance to experience vintage train travel aboard restored 1900s-era passenger cars, pulled by historic locomotives. One notable engine is the 1919 steam locomotive, Santa Fe 4-6-2 #3415, which attracts railroad enthusiasts from all over.

The line runs from Abilene to Enterprise, offering picturesque views of the Kansas countryside, crossing the Smoky Hill River, and showcasing the region's agricultural landscape.

In addition to scenic excursions, the railroad hosts special events, dinner trains, and private charters, making it a unique attraction that combines history, education, and entertainment for locals and tourists alike.
