Only one organization in Wisconsin currently offers a Wild West train ride experience, the Lumberjack Steam Train!

Lumberjack Steam Train

This historic attraction is located in Laona, offering a nostalgic glimpse into the bygone era of steam locomotives and timber operations.

The train, powered by a restored steam locomotive - Laona & Northern Railway 2-6-2 #4 (built by Vulcan in 1916) - provides visitors with a scenic journey through the forested landscape of the Northwoods. The excursion begins at the Camp Five Museum, a living history museum that highlights the region's rich logging history and the development of the timber industry.

Onboard, passengers can enjoy the authentic experience of a steam train ride, complete with the sights and sounds of the locomotive in action. The journey includes a visit to the “Elk Ranch” and the Blacksmith Shop, adding to the educational aspect of the trip.

The Lumberjack Steam Train is not only an enjoyable family-friendly activity but also an important historical preservation effort, celebrating the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the area.

One of their special events is their "Cowboy Reenactment" held during a few dates each year where a train robbery from the "Old West" takes place.
