Cuyahoga Valley North Pole Adventure (2026): Dates, Tickets & Tips

Last revised: August 24, 2026

By: Adam Burns

Northeast Ohio’s big Christmas train is the North Pole Adventure™ on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Families board at Rockside Station in Independence, ride a heated 90-minute round trip through Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and meet Santa after milk, cookies, elves, and a letter to the North Pole Postmaster. This is CVSR’s own holiday ride—not a licensed Polar Express event. Ohio’s Polar Express is at Dennison Depot.

About Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad

CVSR is Ohio’s largest nonprofit excursion railroad and the only regular passenger operation inside a U.S. national park. Trains run the former Baltimore & Ohio Valley Line between Independence, Peninsula, and Akron. Year-round products include National Park scenics, fall color, wine and beer trains, and this November–December family headliner, presented by Meijer.

CVSR hosted licensed Polar Express rides through 2020. In 2021 the railroad dropped the license and built the North Pole Adventure so ticket prices would not have to carry the franchise fee. The story book is not read on board. The ride still sells out for Cleveland, Akron, and Canton families.

Schedules and fares change. Confirm on CVSR before booking. Information compiled August 24, 2026. This is a Christmas train—not a licensed THE POLAR EXPRESS™ event.

What the Ride Is Like

All 2026 North Pole Adventure trains leave Rockside Station. Plan to arrive at least 45 minutes early for parking, photos, and the concessions tent. Pajamas are welcome. Cars are heated, and each car has a restroom. An ADA-accessible car is offered—book that class if you need it.

On board, coaches are decorated with different holiday themes. Elves work the train. Children write a letter to Santa; the North Pole Postmaster collects it. Milk and cookies are served at your seat. The train stops at a North Pole set where Santa boards, greets each child, and presents a small gift.

The late show gets you home around 9:30 p.m. If you have very young children, the 5:00 p.m. departure is the easier night.

Classes of Service & Onboard

  • Coach: Festive seating; milk and cookies included
  • Table seating: Groups sit together around a table; good for families who want a little more room
  • First Class: Premium car; confirm 2026 inclusions on the ticket page
  • Restrooms in each car; ADA car available when booked
  • Free parking at Rockside Station

Tickets & Practical Information

  • Booking: CVSR calendar / Etix. Members buy September 15; everyone else September 29. Peak weekends go first.
  • Station: 7900 Old Rockside Road, Independence, OH 44131. Do not go to Akron Northside or Peninsula for this event.
  • Parking: Free lot at Rockside.
  • Lodging: Independence, Independence/Rockside hotels, downtown Cleveland, or Akron if you want a longer weekend.
  • Polar Express: Ohio’s licensed Polar ride is at Dennison Depot—see the Ohio Polar hub and national Polar hub.

Tips for the Best Experience

  • Set a reminder for the September 29 public sale. Membership is the only way onto the earlier window.
  • Book the ADA car if anyone in the party needs a ramp—do not assume walk-up space.
  • Bring a coat for the platform. The train is heated; the station is not.
  • Read CVSR’s allergy notes. Milk and cookies are part of the show.
  • If you want the licensed Polar Express story, cocoa, and silver bell, book Dennison—not this ride.
