Alabama "Murder Mystery" Dinner Train Rides
Published: April 15, 2026
By: Adam Burns
In the heart of Alabama, a unique experience awaits those who are both culinary enthusiasts and mystery aficionados. Imagine a setting where the charm of vintage railcars meets the enigmatic allure of a whodunit, all while savoring a gourmet meal.
This is the essence of mystery dinner train rides—a captivating blend of theatre, gastronomy, and travel that beckons to anyone in search of an unforgettable evening.
There is currently only one location in Alabama hosting a mystery (only!) dinner experience at the Wales West Light Railway in Silverhill.
The Concept
Murder mystery dinner train rides transport guests back to a bygone era when rail travel was the pinnacle of luxury and adventure. Passengers board beautifully restored vintage cars, greeted by the luster of polished wood paneling, plush seats, and the gentle sway of the train as it departs from the station.
The added twist? A team of talented actors onboard sets the stage for a thrilling mystery play - in this case with a western theme at Wales West. Each passenger becomes a part of the story, urging their inner detective to decipher clues, interrogate suspects, and ultimately solve the crime before the train returns to the station.
A Night of Elegance and Intrigue
Alabama is renowned for its rich culture and history, making it an ideal backdrop for these enthralling adventures. The state's dining trains provide a versatile setting for stories that range from classic tales of betrayal and intrigue to more humorous capers filled with laughter.
Upon arrival, guests are often encouraged to dress in period-appropriate attire, such as the elegant styles of the 1920s, adding an additional layer of immersion to the experience. Each train hosts a different theme or storyline, ensuring that no two journeys are alike.
Wales West Light Railway & RV Resort
The Wales West Light Railway & RV Resort, located in Silverhill, Alabama, is a unique destination that combines the charm of a miniature railway with the amenities of a full-service RV resort. This family-friendly attraction is inspired by the 2-foot, narrow-gauge railways of Wales, offering an authentic experience with a touch of southern hospitality.
The highlight of Wales West is its narrow-gauge steam and diesel trains, which take visitors on a scenic ride through beautifully landscaped grounds that feature ornamental lakes and woodlands. The railway operates year-round and hosts a variety of seasonal events, including themed train rides like the Pumpkin Patch Express, Arctic Express, and Cottontail Express, adding a festive flair for visitors of all ages.
Throughout the summer they host their "Western Mystery Dinner Theater" which includes a mystery experience when foul play occurs on the "Dame Anne" locomotive. The entire dinner and mystery event lasts over 4 hours with catering provided by Buster's BBQ.
More About Wales West
In addition to the railway, the resort boasts a range of accommodations for RV enthusiasts. The RV park has well-maintained sites with full hookups, pull-through access, and amenities such as Wi-Fi, cable TV, and bathhouses. Guests also have access to recreational facilities, including a heated indoor pool, hot tub, and a clubhouse for social gatherings. The resort's location offers convenient access to nearby attractions along Alabama's Gulf Coast.
Wales West is also committed to providing educational experiences. The facility offers demonstrations on locomotive maintenance and steam engine operations, allowing guests to learn about the intricacies of railway engineering. Children and adults alike can marvel at the craftsmanship that goes into running a railway.
The combination of transportation history, outdoor activities, and hospitality makes Wales West Light Railway & RV Resort a unique retreat for families, train enthusiasts, and RV travelers alike. Its blend of nostalgic experiences and modern comforts ensures that visitors leave with cherished memories and a better understanding of the rich traditions of narrow-gauge railways.
Mystery dinner trains offer an enthralling and unparalleled blend of entertainment, history, and gastronomy. They are microcosms of theater and dining, set against the backdrop of the enchanting Southern landscape. Whether you're a local or a visitor, these train rides promise an evening of laughter, adventure, and memory-making.
By stepping aboard, you not only embark on a journey across Alabama's beautiful terrain but also through a lively narrative where every bite is delectable, and every clue is a step closer to discovery. All aboard the dinner train for an extraordinary night of mystery and delight!
