The Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello, Illinois hosts the state’s main Murder Mystery Dinner Train: an approximately two-hour evening with a three-course meal prepared by Michaels’ Catering of Champaign and interactive theater from Champaign Urbana Theatre Company’s Seven Corpse Dinner Murder Mysteries. Trains depart the historic Wabash Depot in downtown Monticello at 5:00 p.m. on selected 2026 Saturdays.

About the Monticello Railway Museum
MRYM preserves regional rail history with operating excursions and restored passenger equipment, including dining-car service for special events. Murder Mystery and Valentine’s dinner trains are among the museum’s most popular adult fundraisers, drawing Champaign-Urbana and central Illinois visitors.

What the Evening Is Like
Board restored dining equipment for a two-hour loop while actors work the cars and dinner is served. Guests play detective between courses. The format is classic museum dinner theater on the rails—more intimate than Class I tourist lines, with strong local theater production values.
