Middle Georgia Megasite Will Host the First Audi Plant in the U.S.

Published: November 2, 2026

By: Adam Burns

PEACH COUNTY, Ga. — Audi will build its first U.S. production plant at the Middle Georgia Megasite, a Norfolk Southern-served site in Peach County. The Audi release of October 25 puts the investment at around $4 billion and the employment at about 4,500 jobs. The Norfolk Southern account of October 27 uses the same scale and adds rail connections to the ports of Savannah and Brunswick.

Two calendars, one site

The Audi release says construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in 2027, with production planned for the early 2030s. The plant is designed for an annual capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles, premium SUVs for North American customers. Audi calls the property the Middle Georgia Mega Site and says the investment is meant to make North America a third pillar of production, beside Europe and China. “Georgia combines an investment-ready site, skilled workforce, established automotive supplier network and strong logistics infrastructure,” the company said. “The Middle Georgia Mega Site also provides the flexibility and space for future expansion.”

Norfolk Southern, writing on October 27, places the project in Peach County and spells the site as one word, Middle Georgia Megasite. That account gives a finer sequence: grading in 2027, construction of the plant in 2028, and full production in 2031, at an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles. The railroad says the site has access to the Norfolk Southern network and to rail connections with Savannah and Brunswick, for domestic and international markets.

What they said

“We have much greater ambitions for Audi in America,” said Gernot Döllner, chairman of the board of management of AUDI AG. “The United States is one of the world’s most important premium markets, and we have not yet realized our full potential. We are determined to change that — with premium products, a stronger brand and a competitive local production base.”

“Georgia has built a reputation as a place where global companies come to shape the future of their industries,” Governor Brian Kemp said in the Audi release. “Audi’s decision to establish its first American manufacturing plant here is another defining moment in that journey.”

“Audi’s investment demonstrates how rail-served sites can help attract advanced manufacturing and create lasting economic opportunity,” said Ed Elkins, Norfolk Southern executive vice president and chief commercial officer. “For a manufacturer, a location decision is also a supply chain decision, and rail provides the reach and capacity to connect production with suppliers and customers.”
