The Toledo, Peoria & Western dieselized a short railroad with a short list. Two F3 demonstrators arrived in 1947, Alco road-switchers and three Lima switchers followed, and 4-8-4 No. 80 made the last steam run on October 11, 1950. The all-time list counts 42 locomotives, each frame once: 13 from Alco, three from Lima-Hamilton, and 26 from Electro-Motive. A later Santa Fe number on one of these frames is the same locomotive. The company history is a separate page. The steam roster is another.

The first road diesels were Electro-Motive demonstrators 291-A1 and 291-B1, a cab and a booster, built in July 1945 and bought in 1947. The cab ran as 100. Photographs also show it as 100A. In January 1950 the Peoria shop fitted a cab to the booster, and the railroad had two cabs. Both were traded for GP18 600 and GP30 700.

Seven RS2s, 200–206, came from Alco between April 1948 and December 1949. One RS3, No. 207, followed in December 1950. It was delivered to run long-hood forward, and the railroad soon turned it to run short-hood forward. Three Lima-Hamilton switchers of 1,000 horsepower, 300–302, arrived between May 1949 and April 1950. Nos. 300 and 302 had been Lima demonstrators. The three were sold in 1958.
Three RS11s, 400–402, came from November 1958 through June 1959. Two C424s, 800 and 801, arrived in September 1964 and were the last Alcos. Three of the seven RS2s were traded for GP35s 900–902, which rode on the Alco trucks. The East Peoria photograph at the top of the page is the RS2s in July 1963, with 204 nearest the camera.
The Electro-Motive road fleet was built one small order at a time. GP7s 102 and 103 came in January 1952. GP18 600, a single engine, came in April 1961. GP30 700 came in September 1963. The three GP35s followed in November 1965, on those Alco trucks. In 1969 the railroad kept Electro-Motive demonstrator 21 and numbered it 1000, a GP40. Four SW1500s handled the yards and the transfers: 303 and 304 in February 1968, and 305 and 306 in May 1970.

The last new power of the historic company was eleven GP38-2s, in two orders. Nos. 2001–2004 were built in May 1977. Nos. 2005–2011 were built in October 1978. None of the eleven had a dynamic brake. Entering 1983, the last year on its own, the railroad had 31 locomotives. That is a count for one year. The Santa Fe kept the GP30, the GP40, and these eleven GP38-2s. The GP35s later carried Santa Fe numbers 3462–3464.
In February 1989 the old name went back on the Lomax–Logansport line. The revived company gathered secondhand Santa Fe GP20s from 1989 through 1991. Those GP20s reused road numbers the GP38-2s had carried, and they came out of several Santa Fe orders. In 1992 the company added one locomotive of its own to this list, F7A 1500, built in June 1952 as Bessemer & Lake Erie 720-A. Since Genesee & Wyoming bought the railroad in 2012, other locomotives from that family have worked the line on rotation. Each of those stays on the roster of the railroad that owns it.
