New Brunswick Transload Gets CN Rail Service

Published: November 6, 2026

By: Adam Burns

Canadian National said on November 4 that it has started to serve a third-party transload near Grand Falls, New Brunswick. The operator is AD Gagnon Transload Services. CN says the site is already taking agriculture and energy customers, and that it covers northwestern New Brunswick, northern Maine, and eastern Quebec. The same account places the facility three kilometres from the Trans-Canada Highway, on CN’s main line.

A shared point for shippers without a siding

CN describes the project as a way to reach industries that sit near the railroad but do not have their own siding. AD Gagnon Transload Services, the account says, built the facility on land along the main line so goods can move between truck and rail at one shared point. Truck moves cover the shorter regional haul. Rail covers the longer haul, where CN says it can hold a cost advantage. From there, CN says shippers can reach North American markets and international gateways on its three-coast network.

The story does not give a construction cost, an opening-day car count, or a date for the first switch. It says the facility is already being put to work.

What the site lists

CN’s account of the site lists four capabilities:

  • Room for up to 106 railcars for loading, unloading, and storage.
  • Rail service three times a week, with switching done on the site.
  • More than one commodity, including liquid bulk, dry bulk, and dangerous goods.
  • Tank cars, boxcars, gondolas, flatcars, and centre-beam cars.

The same page says that range fits forest products, agriculture, energy, construction materials, and other bulk commodities, whether the move is raw material coming in or finished goods going out. Greenergy, which CN describes as an international fuel supplier and distributor, is among the first customers.

What the two companies said

Miguel Gagnon, chief executive of AD Gagnon Transload Services, said: “Our facility is already being put to work for the region and is ready for more. AD Gagnon Transload Services was built to serve a broad range of industries, and our focus is simple: provide responsive service, understand what customers need and help them move goods efficiently.”

Sandra Ellis, vice-president, bulk, at CN, said: “Third-party transload partners make a strong rail network even stronger. AD Gagnon Transload Services brings local knowledge, investment and a commitment to service, while CN connects regional industries to markets across North America and internationally. That’s the value of collaboration: local opportunities with far-reaching potential.”

CN’s October grain record, published the next day, is a separate release. It is reported as October grain records. The tonnage in that story is not a figure for this transload.
