The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) in Cumberland, Maryland runs one of the Mid-Atlantic’s best-known Murder Mystery Dinner Trains: a roughly three-hour, 21+ evening with dinner and interactive theater on the rails. It is a separate product from daytime Frostburg Flyer scenic trains and fall foliage trips—book it as a date-night or group outing, not a substitute for the mountain day ride.

About the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad
WMSR operates heritage excursions through the Alleghenies between Cumberland and Frostburg on former Western Maryland Railway trackage. Steam and diesel power appear depending on the schedule. The Murder Mystery Dinner Train is among the railroad’s highest-demand evening products, with 2026 departures opened early in the year and running into late October on the published event calendar.

What the Evening Is Like
Actors work the train as a comic or classic whodunit unfolds while dinner is served. Guests pick up clues, interact with characters, and try to solve the crime before the return to Cumberland. Dress is typically smart-casual; some guests costume lightly, but formal dress is not required unless the railroad notes a special theme night.
This is not the Frostburg day trip with mountain layover—expect an evening out focused on dinner theater on the move.
