Oregon Halloween Train Rides (2026)

Oregon’s posted 2026 Halloween ride is the Sumpter Valley Railroad Halloween Express. The railroad’s special-events calendar places it at the Sumpter Depot from Saturday, October 31, at 11:00 a.m. through Sunday, November 1, at 12:30 p.m. That card does not print the fare or the individual departure times. Those are on the ticket page. A fall-color weekend earlier in October is a different train, from McEwen.

Sumpter Valley Railroad
(Sumpter): The Halloween Express is listed on the 2026 special-events calendar at the Sumpter Depot. The card runs from Saturday, October 31, at 11:00 a.m. to Sunday, November 1, at 12:30 p.m. Read that as the span of the event, then pick a departure on the reservation page. The card does not say how long one ride is, what riders do at the stop, or what the ticket costs. The station address on the railroad’s homepage is 211 Austin Street, Sumpter, OR 97877, at the entrance to the Dredge State Heritage Area. Phone (541) 894-2268.
Sumpter Valley is Oregon’s narrow-gauge steam railroad. The homepage also says that in moderate or high fire danger the excursion may be pulled by a diesel. The Halloween card does not assign an engine. Do not promise steam for this weekend until the ticket says so. Fall foliage trains on October 16 through 18 leave McEwen Depot, not Sumpter, and they are a color ride rather than this Halloween ticket.
Planning tips
- Sumpter and McEwen are different depots. The Halloween Express card says Sumpter Depot. The October 16 through 18 color trains say McEwen.
- The 11:00 a.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday marks are the ends of the calendar window. Buy a specific departure.
- The fare is not on the events card. Read it at checkout.
- October 31 in the Elkhorn country is cold. The railroad’s regular trains are short or about two hours depending on the depot. This event did not print its own length.
