Reading Blue Mountain & Northern’s passenger department sells a classic eastern foliage product: full-day fall trains from Reading Outer Station and Port Clinton into historic Jim Thorpe. These are not the same ticket as the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway’s ~70-minute Autumn Leaf loop from Jim Thorpe. If you want mainline-style mileage, steam when rostered (including T-1 #2102 on select Iron Horse / special dates), or F-unit diesel consists on other fall days, book the R&N fall foliage calendar—not the short gorge train alone.

About Reading & Northern Passenger Service

Reading & Northern operates a large regional freight railroad with an active passenger program: Lehigh Gorge short scenic trains from Jim Thorpe, longer Reading–Jim Thorpe and Port Clinton–origin trips, Iron Horse Rambles behind restored steam, and holiday specials. Fall foliage is one of the railroad’s highest-demand seasons; tickets go on sale early and popular steam dates sell out.

What the Ride Is Like

These are destination day trips: board in the Reading or Port Clinton area, ride into mountain and river country, spend free time in Jim Thorpe (shops, food, photos), and return the same day. Scenery mixes mainline-feeling running with Pocono / Lehigh highland color at peak. It is a longer commitment than the Jim Thorpe–based gorge train and a different ticket inventory.

Peak Color Notes
