LIRR Service Changes Start on November 9

Published: November 7, 2026

By: Adam Burns

The Long Island Rail Road will put new schedules on every branch on Monday, November 9, 2026. The MTA page that lists the changes was updated at 10:00 a.m. on October 26, 2026. Many midday weekday trains and weekend trains will leave at new times. Some will leave earlier than they do now, so track maintenance and station accessibility work can move ahead. The page says there are no major changes to rush-hour service. Riders should use the TrainTime app or the timetable for their branch.

Babylon comes back in stages

On weekends starting Saturday, November 14, and on midday weekdays starting Monday, November 23, Babylon Branch service will be restored to the pattern that ran before the Babylon station reconstruction. Direct service from stations east of Massapequa to Grand Central will be restored. There will be two local trains an hour between Manhattan and Babylon, one to Penn Station and one to Grand Central. Express trains between Babylon and Penn Station will run only to connect with Montauk Branch trains, and they will stop only at Jamaica, Freeport, and Babylon.

A special midday weekday schedule will be in effect November 9 through November 20 for track work between Amityville and Lindenhurst. The page does not describe that work. It points riders to the Planned Work lookup for details and updates.

Clocks on five other branches

On the Hempstead Branch, the 6:34 a.m. train from Westbury to Penn Station will no longer stop at Elmont-UBS Arena.

On the Montauk Branch, the 5:47 a.m. train from Speonk to Long Island City will originate in Hampton Bays at 5:30 a.m. The page says that adds a morning option at Hampton Bays and Westhampton.

On the Port Jefferson Branch, a new weekend local to Penn Station will leave Hicksville at 4:33 p.m. A return trip will leave Penn Station at 10:02 p.m. The page says the pair is there to add capacity to and from events. It does not name an event.

On the Ronkonkoma Branch, the 6:27 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma to Grand Central will run two minutes earlier. The page does not print the new departure. Midday weekday service east of Ronkonkoma, the Greenport service, resumes on November 23. That sentence does not say the Greenport trains start on November 9.

In the City Terminal Zone, the 7:18 p.m. train from Grand Central to Long Beach will leave one minute earlier and will add a stop at Kew Gardens. The page does not print the new departure.

Brooklyn is already on a 20-minute headway

The same page says midday weekday service between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal has been restored to every 20 minutes. That sentence is in the present. It does not say the Brooklyn restoration begins on November 9.

September ridership is a separate note, LIRR September Ridership Tops the 2019 Mark. Those figures are not part of this schedule.
