Spring in Missouri is a time of renewal, vibrant colors, and festive celebrations. Among the most delightful traditions is the unique experience of Easter-themed scenic train rides. From gliding past lush landscapes to family-centered activities on board, these train journeys offer something for everyone.
Whether you're a family looking to create memories or a train enthusiast eager to experience the charm of classic rail travel, Missouri's Easter train rides promise an unforgettable experience. Here’s a detailed guide to help you plan your adventure.
The St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern Railway is one of Missouri's lesser known heritage railroads but nevertheless offers fine excursions and specialty events throughout the year, typically pulled by a restored PRR E8A diesel.
While the Branson Scenic Railway does not currently host Easter-themed train rides the popular tourist attraction does operate throughout much the early spring season in March and April.
The railroad offers a captivating journey through the stunning landscapes of the Ozark Mountains, providing passengers with a unique and nostalgic experience aboard vintage railcars. Departing from the historic 1905 depot in downtown Branson, Missouri, this excursion train offers two distinctive routes on a 40-mile round trip, traveling either north into Missouri or south into northern Arkansas. The choice between the two routes is dependent on track availability and ensures a fresh experience with each visit.
Passengers enjoy unparalleled views of scenic valleys, lush forests, and rolling hills, with sights that include tunnels and trestles, showcases of the engineering feats from a bygone era. The Branson Scenic Railway typically operates from March through December, offering a chance to witness the changing seasons, from vibrant spring blooms to the brilliant colors of autumn foliage. Special themed rides such as the Polar Express are also available during the holiday season, creating magical experiences for families and children.
Passengers ride in lovingly restored railcars, complete with comfortable seating that emphasizes 1950s luxury travel charm. The railway also provides an informative narration throughout the journey, sharing fascinating historical insights about the region and the railroad. The Branson Scenic Railway not only offers a trip through the picturesque Ozark landscape but also transports visitors back in time to the golden age of rail travel.
Operating out of Jackson, Missouri, the St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern Railway offers a charming and historical ride aboard their vintage train cars.
The St. Louis Iron Mountain and Southern Railway is a prominent heritage railroad situated in Jackson, Missouri. This railroad serves as a nostalgic journey into the past, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the charm and history of vintage train travel. Operating primarily on weekends, the railway features meticulously restored steam and diesel locomotives, complete with period-authentic passenger cars. Passengers can enjoy scenic rides through the picturesque Southeastern Missouri countryside, with themed excursions and special events enhancing the experience.
The railroad's origins date back to the 19th century, and it played a significant role in the region’s economic development during its operational heyday. Today, the St. Louis Iron Mountain and Southern Railway functions as an educational and recreational venue, dedicated to preserving the rich history of rail transport in America. Special events, often held throughout the year, include themed rides such as Murder Mystery Dinners and Santa Express trips, providing family-friendly entertainment that appeals to all ages.
Managed and operated by a team of passionate volunteers and railway enthusiasts, the heritage railway emphasizes historical accuracy and community engagement. It stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of American railroads, inviting visitors to step back in time and experience the golden era of train travel.
Features:
Interactive Entertainment: Enjoy live music, magic shows, and an engaging narration of the train’s history.
Easter Bunny Meet & Greet: Kids will love meeting the Easter Bunny and posing for keepsake photos.
Easter Egg Hunt: Held in the station yard after the ride, this activity is a highlight for many children.
