Cape Cod Central THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride (2026): Buzzards Bay Dates & Tips

Cape Cod’s licensed THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride does not board in Hyannis. 2026 Polar departs 70 Main Street, Buzzards Bay, on select nights November 20 through December 23. The round trip is about 1½ hours. Tickets are on sale. Opening weekend (Nov. 20–22) is the value band; Regular nights cost more. Mixing classes in one order splits the party into different cars.

About Cape Cod Central Polar

Cape Cod Central is the Cape’s dinner-and-excursion railroad. Polar is a licensed theatrical product on a Buzzards Bay–North Pole staging run, not a canal sightseeing train. Walker’s Shortbread is the official onboard treat. 888-797-7245 for reservations.

What the Ride Is Like

Conductor punches golden tickets. Chefs and waiters stage the story. Cocoa and Walker’s Shortbread. Santa boards with the sleigh bell. Every passenger keeps a souvenir golden ticket. Pajamas encouraged. Boarding starts 30 minutes before departure; the train does not wait.

Classes of Service

  • Standard: Bilevel 2-and-3 seating; stairs; no wheelchairs
  • First Class: Groups of four, window groups, tumbler cup; wheelchair-capable cars with ADA restrooms—buy First Class–Wheelchair
  • Deluxe: Entire 4-top required; 1937 vintage or lower dome; wheelchairs to 26 inches, no ADA restrooms
  • Premium: Upper dome booths; six stairs; ceramic Polar mug

Tickets & Practical Information

  • Booking: capetrain.com; non-refundable. Reschedule at least four days out (888-797-7245)
  • Will-call: Name on the reservation
  • Matinees: Daylight trips exist; North Pole lighting differs from night shows
  • Licensing wall: Non-Polar Christmas trains → Christmas hub

Tips for the Best Experience

  • Opening weekend is the cheap calendar, not a lesser show
  • Book one class for the whole party
  • Cape traffic on Route 6 / Bourne Bridge: leave slack
