Blue Ridge Scenic Railway
Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway offers a unique and picturesque train journey that is especially delightful during the Easter season. Departing from the charming town of Blue Ridge, Georgia, the train takes you on a round trip along the Toccoa River, with beautiful views of dense forests and rolling hills.
The railroad used to offer the Easter Eggspress and while this trip no longer runs they do host spring trips beginning in March.
SAM Shortline's Easter Eggspress
SAM Shortline offers a different kind of scenic journey through Southwest Georgia, taking passengers through the heart of the state's historic sites and charming small towns. The train operates from Cordele and runs through Georgia Veterans State Park, Leslie, and Plains, known as the hometown of President Jimmy Carter.
Easter Eggspress Special
The SAM Shortline offers an Easter Eggspress ride where families can enjoy an Easter egg hunt, storytelling, and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny. This event is designed to create wonderful memories for children and adults alike, accompanied by the backdrop of Georgia's beautiful rural landscapes.
Journey Duration: Varies but trips generally last 1 hour.
Stone Mountain Park Scenic Railroad Easter Events
Stone Mountain Park hosts an array of activities around Easter, including special events on their Scenic Railroad. This popular attraction offers a complete circuit around Stone Mountain, providing breathtaking views of the Georgia countryside from the comfortable convenience of an open-air car.
Easter Events
Stone Mountain Park usually features a variety of Easter-themed activities, including an Easter Bunny encounter, a fun Easter trail, and festive arts and crafts. The Scenic Railroad itself is transformed with Easter decor, making the ride extra special for families looking to celebrate.
Journey Duration: The train ride is a brief, yet fulfilling, 30-minute loop.
Georgia Coastal Railway's Cottontail Easter Special
For those closer to the coastal region, the Georgia Coastal Railway offers a nostalgic journey along the route that connects Kingsland through the picturesque settings of coastal Georgia. This railway embraces the history and traditions of train travel while offering delightful themed excursions.
The Cottontail Easter Special provides a mix of entertainment and scenic beauty. During the trip the kids can ride along with Peter Cottontail and hunt Easter eggs.
. Although it may not have the official Easter activities, the picturesque ride itself can be a serene way to spend the Easter season, highlighting the tranquil coastal landscapes and marshlands.
Journey Duration: Typically around 1.5 to 2 hours.
Tips for Planning Your Easter Train Adventure
Book Early: Easter-themed train rides are immensely popular, so it's advisable to book tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Check Schedules: Train schedules and specific event details can vary, so visit the official websites for the latest updates and timings.
Dress Comfortably: Trains can vary in temperature depending on the season and location, so dress in layers to ensure comfort during your journey.
Pack Essentials for Kids: If traveling with children, pack snacks, drinks, and entertainment for the ride. Many Easter events cater to kids, but having comforts on hand is always a good idea.
Capture the Moments: Don’t forget your camera or smartphone to capture precious memories, especially with visits from the Easter Bunny.
Georgia's scenic railways offer a vibrant and festive way to celebrate Easter, with captivating views and delightful activities that appeal to all ages. Whether you're a local or a visitor, embracing the joy of Easter on a train ride through Georgia's stunning landscapes promises an experience you won't soon forget.
