The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum is operating its popular Hoosac Valley Explorer Ice Cream Train throughout the summer of 2026. This family-friendly excursion combines a scenic, narrated ride on meticulously restored vintage railcars with the simple joy of enjoying a cold ice cream treat afterward.
The Experience
Passengers board at the historic Adams Station in Adams, Massachusetts, for a delightful trip back in time through the beautiful and historic Hoosac Valley of northwestern Massachusetts. Knowledgeable narrators share stories about how railroads shaped the region, its industrial past, and the local rail heritage.
After the ride, guests receive an ice cream treat of their choice — the perfect way to cool down on a warm summer day.
Note: This excursion does not travel through the famous Hoosac Tunnel.
2026 Schedule
- Most Saturdays from July 4 through September 5
- Departures at 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM
- Select Sundays may also be offered (check the calendar for exact dates)
Rides typically last long enough for a relaxed narrated experience plus ice cream time (roughly 60–90 minutes total depending on the departure).

Tickets are available online through the museum’s website and are strongly recommended to guarantee a seat. All sales are final. Walk-up tickets are not guaranteed.
