WMSR Allegheny Mountain Dinner Train (2026): Cumberland Dates & Tickets

Western Maryland Scenic Railroad’s seated dinner is the Allegheny Mountain Dinner Train from Cumberland. Boarding starts at 6:30 p.m.; the train leaves at 7:00 p.m. and is back about 10:00 p.m. Chefs cook a three-course meal onboard. The excursion is 21 and older. Saturday evenings are the listed pattern, April through October on the Frostburg Flyer companion page. Polar Express in Cumberland is a different ticket and a different hub.

About the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad

WMSR runs the former Western Maryland Railway climb from Cumberland to Frostburg—about 16 miles one way, 32 miles round trip on the daytime Frostburg Flyer, including Helmstetter’s Curve, Brush Tunnel, and the Narrows. The dinner train uses that mountain railroad as a rolling dining room. The product launched in 2023. Food is cooked in a kitchen car, not boxed ahead. Full bar service (wine, beer, cocktails) is sold onboard; non-alcoholic drinks are complimentary on the dinner description.

Chesapeake & Ohio 2-6-6-2 #1309 is the steam star when she is on the Flyer calendar. Do not assume 1309, or any steam, is on your dinner ticket. Read the date.

What the evening is like

Arrive about 45 minutes before departure for boarding instructions. Seating is assigned. Wait staff start you with refreshments; the kitchen car works the three courses while the train climbs the Alleghenies. Candlelight, white tablecloths, and a full bar are the advertised tone. This is a date-night product, not a family scenic. No outside alcohol, no smoking, service animals only.

Sunset on the Mountain is a separate evening meal with a scenery-first pitch when it is on the calendar. Murder Mystery Dinner (The Fowl Players of Perryville, every other Friday in the railroad’s mystery listing, also 21+, 6:30/7:00/10:00) is the show overlay. Booking: Advance required. WMSR posts refunds up to two weeks out; inside two weeks, in-house credit for the same calendar year.
