Galveston Island’s licensed THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride boards at the museum’s historic 1932 Union Depot—a Polar Bell Award prologue host that treats the depot itself as part of the show. For 2026, trains run November 13 through December 23. The ride is about 60 minutes; plan closer to two hours for arrival, pre-boarding, and the return. Sensory-friendly cars are scheduled Tuesday, December 15, 2026 at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m.

About the Galveston Railroad Museum

Housed in the former Santa Fe depot complex, the museum blends indoor exhibits, restored locomotives and cars, and seasonal Polar Express on the grounds. The production has been recognized by Rail Events Inc. / Warner Bros. with a Polar Bell Award for Best Prologue—the station performance before you board is the point, not a throwaway wait.

What the Ride Is Like

Arrive about an hour before departure (museum copy also notes ~30 minutes as a minimum) for food, letters to Santa, and the depot performance. Final boarding is 10 minutes before departure—trains leave on time. On board, chefs serve hot chocolate and a cookie while the story is read. Passengers stay on the train at the North Pole; Santa boards for the return, visits each car, and gives children the silver sleigh bell. Caroling fills the trip back to the depot.

Pajamas are encouraged; closed-toe shoes are the safety call. Coaches are enclosed and heated; outdoor depot areas are not. After the ride, photo ops, entertainment, and the museum store keep families on the grounds.

First Class: Tables of four; hot chocolate, a special cookie, souvenir mug; dedicated waiters and chefs
Coach: Assigned seats in traditional rows; hot chocolate and cookie
Infants age 1 and under may lap-sit without a ticket; ages 2–3 need a lap ticket or a full seat ticket
Strollers and baby carriers are not allowed on board
