Florida -- Wine Tasting -- Train Rides

Published: August 10, 2026

By: Adam Burns

Florida, known for its sun-kissed beaches, vibrant culture, and thrilling attractions, is now carving a niche in the realm of wine tourism. While this might come as a surprise to some, the Sunshine State is gradually becoming a sought-after destination for wine lovers.

Among its diverse offerings, wine tasting train rides have emerged as engaging, immersive experiences that combine the allure of scenic journeys with the richness of wine culture. This unique concept has captivated both locals and tourists, providing an unforgettable way to enjoy Florida's landscapes alongside exquisite wines.

There is currently one location in the Florida offering wine amid an onboard rail experience, the Seminole Gulf Railway.

Wine tasting trains are special excursions that take participants through picturesque routes, where they can enjoy curated selections of wines in a delightful, social setting. These trips not only showcase the beauty of Florida's lesser-known regions but also celebrate the growing importance of local wineries and vineyards.

While Florida may not be associated with vast vineyards like California or France, it boasts a surprising number of local wineries producing distinctive wines. The warm climate and sandy soils contribute to the unique terroir, giving rise to flavors that reflect the region's character. Florida's adventurous wine makers grow muscadine and hybrid grapes, which are perfectly suited to the state’s subtropical climate.

Seminole Gulf Railway

One of the most popular wine experiences is the Seminole Gulf Railway's Murder Mystery Dinner Train, which operates routes in the southwest part of the state, particularly around Fort Myers. This five-hour journey not only offers the thrill of a vintage train ride but also combines it with an interactive dinner theater show that includes wine options.  Participants are treated to a cozy, 1940s-style dining car experience, where they savor a multi-course meal paired with carefully selected wines.

The Seminole Gulf Railway is long considered the pioneer of the dinner train experience and remains a popular draw to this very day!

Future of Wine Tasting Trains

The success of wine tasting trains demonstrates the potential for further growth in this sector. As more people discover the captivating experiences these journeys offer, there is likely to be an increased demand for similar excursions in other scenic parts of the state.

Entrepreneurs and tourism businesses may look to innovate further, incorporating different themes, extending routes, or partnering with new vineyards to enhance the overall experience.

Additionally, as the global focus on sustainable travel continues to grow, these eco-friendly train rides offer an attractive alternative to traditional tourism. They integrate entertainment, education, and ecotourism in a manner that appeals to environmentally conscious travelers.

Conclusion

Wine tasting trains marry the allure of travel with the pleasures of fine wine, creating an experience that transcends traditional wine tours. By offering a taste of local wines alongside the state’s scenic beauty, these excursions promise an enriching journey that complements Florida's natural allure with its burgeoning wine culture.

Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or new to the world of oenology, a wine tasting train ride in Florida provides a charming gateway to the state's hospitality and creative spirit. As this trend continues to flourish, it's clear that Florida is not just a vacation spot for beach lovers and thrill-seekers but also a blossoming haven for wine aficionados seeking unique, engaging experiences.
